Recycled Asphalt
Recycled asphalt driveways are our specialty, built from crushed and screened asphalt millings. We lay them with a paving machine and pack them in with a vibratory roller.

Jesup sits on flat, sandy ground a few miles from the Altamaha River. After a summer storm, much of that sand stays wet and the water has few places to go. Gravel drives rut where cars turn in from the street. Long drives out in the county wash out and turn soft.

The NRCS soil survey for Wayne County maps sand nearly everywhere in and around Jesup. Much of it is rated poorly drained, like the Leon sand common near town. In wet months, the water table in Leon sand can rise to about a foot below the surface. The lowest spots are rated very poorly drained.
Rain keeps that ground wet. NOAA's 30-year normal for a station near Screven, in Wayne County, is about 51 inches a year. Close to 19 inches of it falls from June through August. The city counts about 108 miles of roadway in Jesup and 172 miles of ditches.
A drive that sits lower than the yard collects water from both sides. So a Jesup drive needs height and a crown before it needs a surface. We grade it to shed water to the sides, then build a firm base.
Jesup is an older town. Census estimates show about 4 in 10 homes here were built in the 1950s and 1960s. The median home in town dates to about 1970. If your drive is as old as the house, it may be worn asphalt or thin gravel by now.
A worn drive like that can often be topped with recycled asphalt millings. Once the low spots are graded out, the millings go down right over the old surface. Hot mix asphalt is the other way to go, and we lay that too.
Out past the city limits, along roads like Highway 203 and Doctortown Road, the picture changes. About one home in three in Wayne County is a mobile home. The median home there dates to about 1989. On a rural lot, that can mean a long drive and a parking pad beside the home.
The county is growing, too. It counted 30,144 people in 2020 and an estimated 32,481 in 2025. Permit offices across the county approved about 100 to 145 new single-family homes a year from 2021 to 2025. A new house can start with a gravel or crusher run drive, with millings on top later.
The 2022 farm census counted 272 farms in Wayne County on about 51,500 acres. Poultry and eggs were the county's biggest farm product by sales. A farm lane has to carry loaded trucks in wet weather, when thin gravel over sand ruts fast. We build farm lanes and private roads up in layers, then surface them with recycled asphalt or chip seal.
It depends on where the property sits. Inside the city limits, ask the building inspections and zoning office at City Hall. For a commercial lot, the city asks that the site design follow Georgia's stormwater manual. We pave small church and business parking lots once those plans are set.
Outside the city, Wayne County's building inspections office covers the unincorporated county. For Odum, the county issues permits once Odum approves them.
A drive onto a state route, like US-84 or US-301, crosses state right of way. GDOT requires a permit before construction work there, and it takes the application from the property owner. Its District 5 office sits right in Jesup.
