Recycled Asphalt
Recycled asphalt driveways are our specialty, built from crushed and screened asphalt millings. We lay them with a paving machine and pack them in with a vibratory roller.

Hiring an asphalt paving contractor in St. Marys starts with the ground under the drive. Much of the town sits on fine sand over a high water table. When hard rain meets a high tide, the drains back up and low spots hold water. A thin gravel drive here turns to ruts and puddles.

The streets downtown follow a grid laid out in 1788. That grid forms the St. Marys Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. East of Dark Entry Creek, the city's 2017 master plan describes smaller lots with short front yards. Drives there are short and meet the street close to the house.
Out toward the marsh, the plan describes curving streets and larger lots, with homes set far back from the road. Deep front yards mean longer drives. The plan also notes many empty lots in those areas and calls for new homes on them. A new house needs a new drive, and hot mix asphalt driveways are one option we pave.
Census Bureau estimates show about two of every three homes in St. Marys went up between 1980 and 2009. About seven in ten are detached single-family houses. If a drive from those years has gone soft and patchy, we can top it with recycled asphalt millings.
The NRCS soil survey maps much of St. Marys as Mandarin fine sand, a somewhat poorly drained soil. At the wettest point of the year, its water table sits about two feet below the surface. In low spots, soils such as Rutlege and Pelham can hold water within a few inches of the top.
The master plan counts about 6,000 acres of wetland inside city limits, most of it coastal marsh. It also notes street flooding downtown, and a city stormwater task force studies the drainage problems.
So a St. Marys drive needs a firm base and a crown that sends rain off to the sides. We do the driveway grading first, so the surface goes down on a graded, crowned base. On a very low lot, we look at the job and talk through how much base it needs.
In the Historic District, the city requires a Certificate of Appropriateness for driveway and parking lot changes. The Historic Preservation Commission reviews those requests at its monthly meeting, so plan ahead.
Inside city limits, the Engineering Department inspects driveway culverts and approves changes to storm drainage. Osborne Road is State Route 40, so work in its right of way needs a Georgia Department of Transportation permit.
Machine grading counts as digging under Georgia law. A Georgia 811 locate request goes in at least three business days ahead. The city and state offices answer the permit questions, and we point you to the right one.
The 2020 Census counted 18,256 people in St. Marys, and the Census Bureau puts the 2025 estimate at 20,546. Its building permit survey counts about 950 new single-family homes in the city from 2021 through 2025. The master plan marks the land between Winding Road, Colerain Road and St. Marys Road for new homes. That land sits close to the Kings Bay sub base and I-95.
About four in ten homes in St. Marys are rented, by Census Bureau estimates. We work for property managers too. A worn rental drive can get fresh gravel or a top layer of millings.
For churches and small shops, our parking lot paving covers small lots in recycled asphalt or hot mix asphalt. We mark the lines on lots we pave, and we sealcoat asphalt drives too. We keep to small and mid-size jobs, so highway work and big commercial lots go to larger companies.
